tour de yorkshire1Groups wishing to celebrate the Tour de Yorkshire can get £300 grants.

Organisations are being encouraged to help mark the cycling race coming to the Keighley area on April 30 by holding events, activities or creating artwork along the route.

To help people to organise these events Bradford Council is offering one-off grants of up to £300.

Oakworth cremOakworth Crematorium will close next month for essential repair work to take place.

The crematorium will close after the last service on Friday, 3 March and will re-open on Thursday, 23 March.

Shazad MahmoodThe property company behind the refurb of Parkwood flats has donated £3,600 to a youth centre in memory of the chartered surveyor who made the development possible.

Shazad Mahmood, of Eddisons, tragically passed away in December, last year, aged just 35 after handling the sale of Delph House and Leyland House to ALB Investments Ltd.

Now the company has handed over a range of gadgets to Keighley Young People's Centre, Parkwood Street.

tom hollins smallAiredale hospital anaesthetist Tom Hollins has won what has been called Britain’s most brutal race and sealed his place as one of the race legends.

Tom finished The Spine race in an incredible 99 hours and 25 minutes, putting himself in the racing elite history as one of only two athletes to complete the race in under 100 hours since the race started in 2012.

The race – a 268 mile non-stop uncompromising winter challenge over the entire Pennine Way – is an epic challenge where those racing have to face the extremes of the weather in a non-stop seven day race from Edale to Kirk Yetholm.

cliffecastleA major milestone in the £4.5 million restoration of the park at Cliffe Castle Museum will be reached next week.

The park’s new dome, cupola and steel work weighing 9.5 tonnes will be lifted into place at 11 am on Thursday, 9 February.

The project, supported thanks to National Lottery players, will see the grounds restored to their Victorian splendour, with features including a new palm house, cafe terrace and refurbished pathways and planting.

The National Trust property has a new family trail for the half term holidays.

TEX damageA businessman has offered a £1,000 reward to identify raiders who stole a large number of mobile phones from his store.

The ‘smash and grab’ burglars broke into TEX Ltd, on Hanover Street, in the early hours of this morning.

And as the alarm sounded the duo shattered three large glass display cabinets and filled a large sack with an assortment of mobiles, tablets and Apple watches.

crimestoppers drugs in the communityCrimestoppers is urging residents in Keighley to contact the independent charity with information on drug dealers in the area with a campaign launching today.

A survey carried out by Kris Hopkins MP highlighted the huge impact drug related crime is having on the residents of Keighley. Following the results of this survey, Kris has been working with the Police, local council, community groups and Crimestoppers to launch a campaign to help deal with these crimes.

Kris Hopkins commented: "Since I launched my anti-drugs survey I have had an enormous response with hundreds of people contact me and offering their support to tackle this issue.

west yorkshire badgePolice are appealing for information following an aggravated burglary in Riddlesden.

At about 7.30pm on Thursday three males wearing balaclavas entered a house in Newlyn Road and demanded jewellery and cash from the occupants.

The suspects then searched the house before running off towards Hospital Road.
