Danny Kelly

A local rugby player has died whilst on holiday in Greece.

Tragic Danny Kelly, 23, is thought to have drowned in the Ionian Sea.

His body was washed up on Monday evening, where it was discovered by horrified bathers.

Danny, from Keighley, is believed to have been just a couple of days into his sunshine break with pals on the Ionian island of Zakynthos.

According to Greek news reports Danny went missing on Sunday during a late night beach party.

The keen rugby league player disappeared in the sea at Laganas Beach.

The terrible news of Danny’s death has sparked tributes and messages of condolence from friends and those who knew him from rugby.

Police are currently conducting a preliminary investigation on the cause of death, while his body will be transferred to Patras for a post mortem.

A Foreign and Commonwealth Office spokeswoman said:” We can confirm the death of a British national in Zakynthos, Greece. We are liaising closely with local authorities and are in contact with the family to provide support.”
