wheelchair harrogateA driver who gave his wheelchair bound mate a lift by towing him has been banned from the road.
Michael Ward, 20, was caught on CCTV pulling pal William McPherson, 28, through a town centre.
Ward, of Walworth Avenue, Harrogate, North Yorks, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving on Cheltenham Parade in Harrogate on 28 January 2017.

beth fittonA schoolgirl hanged herself after writing ‘I hate my brother’ on her arm following a sibling row, an inquest heard.

Bethany Fitton, 13, was found by her older brother Ben - she had fashioned a makeshift noose from neckties and killed herself on the staircase to his attic bedroom.

‘Outstanding’ pupil Bethany was a popular and happy girl who had a ‘typical relationship’ with her brother. He complained she talked too much, she thought he was mean.

CRANE COURTA drunken trucker who was swigging cans of lager at the wheel of his HGV has been banned from the road.

Kevin Crane, 64, was spotted swerving on the inside lane of the A1M in North Yorkshire with a can of Fosters in his hand.

A concerned motorist telephoned police and Crane was stopped and blew 53micrograms in 100 millilitres – the legal limit is 35.

bob allerwayA widow who lost her husband to a boozed-up motorist has helped launch North Yorkshire Police’s Christmas campaign against drink driving.

The force has made a film with Lorraine Allaway, to depict the devastating effects of drinking or taking drugs and getting behind the wheel of a car.

Lorraine’s husband Bob was killed in a road traffic collision with a drunk driver in October 2015. In the film she speaks bravely and openly about the experience of losing Bob and what life has been like since the death of her husband.

A postman who stole more than 16,000 letters and parcels faces jail.

Frederick Blake, 25, took the packages from the Royal Mail sorting offices in Skipton and Bradford over six months.

Skipton Magistrates’ Court heard Blake, formerly of Barden Road, Eastby, but now living in The Square, East Morton, had been a postman, but had been promoted to the position of assistant delivery manager during the period of his offending.

lindsay rimerPolice investigating the 22-year-old murder of a schoolgirl have arrested a 63 year old man.

Lindsay Jo Rimer was 13 when she went missing in Hebden Bridge, West Yorks, on 7th November 1994.

The town has since become the setting of gritty BBC cop drama ‘Happy Valley’.
