bob allerwayA widow who lost her husband to a boozed-up motorist has helped launch North Yorkshire Police’s Christmas campaign against drink driving.

The force has made a film with Lorraine Allaway, to depict the devastating effects of drinking or taking drugs and getting behind the wheel of a car.

Lorraine’s husband Bob was killed in a road traffic collision with a drunk driver in October 2015. In the film she speaks bravely and openly about the experience of losing Bob and what life has been like since the death of her husband.

A postman who stole more than 16,000 letters and parcels faces jail.

Frederick Blake, 25, took the packages from the Royal Mail sorting offices in Skipton and Bradford over six months.

Skipton Magistrates’ Court heard Blake, formerly of Barden Road, Eastby, but now living in The Square, East Morton, had been a postman, but had been promoted to the position of assistant delivery manager during the period of his offending.

lindsay rimerPolice investigating the 22-year-old murder of a schoolgirl have arrested a 63 year old man.

Lindsay Jo Rimer was 13 when she went missing in Hebden Bridge, West Yorks, on 7th November 1994.

The town has since become the setting of gritty BBC cop drama ‘Happy Valley’.

graham osheaA controlling boyfriend who refused to let his girlfriend wash has been jailed for four years.

Domineering Graham O’Shea, 42, took complete control of his victim’s life, including her house and finances.

O’Shea, from the Mixenden area of Halifax, began a relationship with the victim after meeting in a pub in March 2016.

Yorkshire-based noise measurement specialists Cirrus Research decided to put some of the most popular fireworks to the test this year to find the loudest pyrotechnic for Plot Night.

With more than £100m spent on fireworks in the UK every year, the Hunmanby-based company opted to test 20 different fireworks to see what noise levels were reached, with some surprising results.

Colne rape2Police have released CCTV images and footage of a sex beast who broke into a woman’s bedroom and attacked her.

The victim, in her sixties, was at home in Colne, Lancs, in the early hours of Sunday morning when she subjected to the terrifying ordeal.

At around 4.15am on Sunday morning (October 9th), a man has got in to the victim’s house on Talbot Street through an open window and confronted her in her bedroom where she had returned after making herself a drink.

Paul WhingPolice have issued an urgent appeal to help find missing Harrogate man, Paul Whing.

Paul, 53, was last seen by his partner at 10.30am on Tuesday 5 July 2016.

He last made contact by text at around 2pm the same day. He was reported missing in the early hours of Wednesday 6 July 2016 when he failed to return home from work at the expected time.

Colleen JarvisThe family of missing woman Colleen Jarvis has issued a heartfelt plea urging her to get in touch.

The 55-year-old was last seen leaving her home in Burlington Avenue, York at around 12.15pm on Thursday 26 May 2016.

However, police believe she could have travelled outside the York area. She particularly likes visiting the Knaresborough and Harrogate area, and Malton.

EU Flag 1Bradford Council is warning people they need to be registered in order to take part in the European Union referendum on Thursday, 23 June.

Anyone who isn’t registered by Tuesday, 7 June won't be able to participate in the referendum to decide on whether Britain will remain in or leave the EU.

People who are already registered do not need to take any action. For example, if you were registered for the recent local council and West Yorkshire Police & Crime Commissioner elections you are already registered for the referendum.
