UPDATE - Homes Evacuated as First World War Bomb Found in Steeton
Homes were evacuated in Steeton this afternoon after a First World War bomb was discovered.
An Army Bomb Disposal Squad attended Summerhill Drive and destroyed the munition in a controlled explosion.
Police cordoned off the area and asked all residents to leave their homes.
One resident said:”We recieved a knock on the door about 12.45pm and a police officer told us to leave our house immediately for our own safety.
“He said they had found a device.”
The weapon was found in an outhouse on Summerhill Drive at about 11.15am.
Army and police blew up the bomb in a nearby field, made the area safe and left the scene at about 2pm.
