Help Needed Identifying Bogus Caller
A bogus caller claiming to be from Yorkshire Water tried to con a pensioner out of cash.
Police investigating the incident in Keighley have issued an image of a male they would like to identify.
The attempted scam occurred on 12 April at around 12.30pm, when a man called at an address in Westburn Avenue, claiming to be from Yorkshire Water.
He told the elderly occupant her drain was blocked and produced an invoice.
No money was handed over and enquiries with Yorkshire Water confirmed no one was working in the area that day.
Detective Constable Paul Eccleston, of Bradford District CID, said:
“We have carried out a number of enquiries to identify this male as it is possible he may have called at other addresses in the area.
“He is described as being in his mid to late twenties and around six feet tall.
“Anyone who can assist with our enquiries is asked to contact Bradford District CID on 101, quoting crime reference 13180172508 or use the ‘Contact Us’ options at www.westyorkshire.police.uk”
"Information can also be reported anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.”
