Police are appealing for witnesses and information about the theft of a black Landrover Defender reg. KU61 TNK that occurred in Gargrave. The vehicle was stolen from a driveway on Church Street over night, some time between 10.30pm on Tuesday 2 January 2018 and 5.30am on Wednesday 3 January 2018.
North Yorkshire Police is appealing for people to hand in unwanted guns as part of a two-week national surrender of firearms and ammunition, starting on 13 November 2017.
It has been three years since the last national firearms surrender, when forces again asked members of the public to surrender unlawfully held or unwanted guns and ammunition to prevent them from getting into criminal hands.
A motorcyclist who died in a crash near Skipton last week has been named as Edward Brier. Edward, from Earby, was killed when his Suzuki bike collided with a 4x4 on the A65 at the Skipton Castle junction on Friday 13 October 2017.

Police are appealing for help to identify four men in connection with the theft of perfume and diet pills from Boots, in Skipton. Between 11.20am and 11.25am, on 5 June 2017, two of the men entered the shop on the High Street and left without paying for a various bottles of perfume.
An assistant head at a top girls' school has been sacked for touching pupils’ bottoms and inappropriate sexual antics. Roderick Dyson, 62, was dismissed from his role as head of engineering at Skipton Girls’ High School, when the allegations came to light and before he was hauled in front of a misconduct panel. He bragged about he size of his penis in class and made lewd remarks, including ‘imagine sucking them balls girls.’
A former children’s home worker has been jailed for 19 years for historic child sexual abuse. Paedophile Stuart Thornton, 65, of Cross Street, Cowling, was sentenced at Bradford Crown Court on 7 July 2017 after being found guilty of offences against three boys and one girl at the former children’s home on Carleton Road, which has since closed. Thornton worked at the home as a volunteer, then as an employed carer between 1971 and 1976 when the offences happened.
A major TV drama shooting in Skipton is looking for extras. The production company wants local men and women to appear in the show, chichis being filmed later this year. Extras will receive a good rate of pay, but applicants must be aged 16 and over.
