Burglars Steal Safe and Contents from Skipton Home
Burglars stole antique silverware, military medals and rings from a pensioner’s safe.
North Yorkshire Police is appealing for witnesses and information following the break-in on Rectory Lane, Skipton, on Sunday 11 February.The raid happened between 12pm and 4pm when the offenders are believed to have gained entry via an insecure window to the property.
A metal safe containing several items of sentimental value to the victim were stolen.
Investigating officers would like to hear from anyone who noticed anyone carrying what looked like a safe in the area at the time or has been offered any of the following items for sale:
• A Georgian set of silver tea spoons, Georgian silver sugar tongs, Georgian silver toddy ladle.
• Small ruby and diamond ring.
• Boxed World War II Navy Medals.
• A silver Metal Gryphon shaped First World War cap badge with the words ’11th Battalion Border Regiment’ .
• A brass metal Gryphon shaped First World War cap badge with the words ’11th Battalion Border Regiment’.
The victim’s granddaughter, Olivia Howsen appealed on Facebook:"My grandad’s house got broken into yesterday Sunday 11th in Skipton by some sad lowlife scum !!! We think it may have been between 1pm and 4pm. They stole the entire safe containing things such as a gold wedding band, a ruby ring and war memorabilia such as the cap badge below. If anyone saw anything anywhere near Rectory Lane/Regents yesterday between the times above please let me know or even better give me a name. Also if you see anything been sold let me know ASAP. Someone must have seen them they were carrying a safe !!!”
